Hope, Healing, and Understanding
Follow our journey as a mother and son navigating life with psoriasis - learning, adapting, and finding beauty in every stage of healing. Together, we're building awareness and hope.
What if your “scales” weren’t scales at all?
The first time Lucas sees the ocean, he knows one thing for sure - he was meant to live in the water. He ran through the waves, laughed with his siblings, and dreamed of swimming all day long… just like a fish.
But one morning, Lucas wakes up itchy.
One spot.
Then another.
Then more.
“Scales!” he cries. “I’m a fish!”
As doctor visits begin and treatments follow, Lucas must learn that sometimes our bodies do surprising things - and that being brave doesn’t mean you aren’t scared.
Fish Out of Water is a heartfelt, beautifully illustrated story about:
Childhood imagination
Living with psoriasis
Courage through medical challenges
A mother’s unconditional love
Finding strength in who you are
Told with warmth, humor, and vibrant illustrations, this story helps children understand chronic skin conditions while reminding them they are never alone.
Perfect for families navigating eczema, psoriasis, or other skin differences, Fish Out of Water opens conversations about resilience, identity, and love.
Because sometimes, being different doesn’t mean you’re meant for the ocean…
It means you’re stronger than you know.

Our Journey Begins
When my son was just three years old, he discovered a few little spots on his leg. With his wild imagination, he called them "scales" and proudly announced he was turning into a fish. What began as a playful story soon became our real-life journey toward understanding psoriasis.
Healing and Hope
Through doctor visits, new treatments, and emotional ups and downs, we learned resilience. Our story isn't just about managing psoriasis - it's about finding hope, love, and community in the process.
Mabel and Lucas’s journey with psoriasis inspired Mabel to think outside the box. She began writing down what Lucas felt and turned those words into simple, heartfelt stories any child can understand and connect with; now she’s sharing their experiences to help other families feel seen, learn, and find comfort.
